Nayarit, from 2024 to 2027
Nayarit is one of five states where Movimiento Ciudadano was the second force in the 2024 federal deputy election. Its 18.2% of the valid vote was its fourth-best share in the country, against 42.5% for Morena. The PAN came third with 11.9% and the Greens close behind with 10.5%. The PRI's share was 8.5%; the PT's, 6.4%; and the PRD's, 2.0%, before it lost its national registration after that vote.
Seen as blocs, the vote split three unequal ways: 59.4% for the Sigamos Haciendo Historia parties, 22.4% for those of Fuerza y Corazón por México and 18.2% for Movimiento Ciudadano, which ran alone. All three districts went to the Morena-led coalition by wide margins, between 30.3 and 38.1 points. In district 1, seated in Santiago Ixcuintla, the runner-up was Movimiento Ciudadano; in Tepic (2) and Compostela (3), the PAN-led alliance. Spoiled ballots reached 4.3%, and turnout stood at 56.1%, higher than in only eight states.
In 2027 Nayarit elects a governor, a race that can also be voted from abroad, plus 30 state legislators and 20 municipal councils. Almost the whole state votes on Mexican Pacific time (UTC−7), with one exception: Bahía de Banderas, next to Puerto Vallarta, follows central time, one hour ahead. With 991,057 people on its October 2026 electoral roll, it is one of four states with fewer than a million voters.
