Baja California, from 2024 to 2027

No state turned out less than Baja California in the 2024 federal deputy election: 48.2% of the electoral roll voted, 12.3 points below the national average. Yet it was the state with Morena's second-highest share, behind only Tabasco: 54.8% of the valid vote. The PAN trailed far behind with 16.1%. Movimiento Ciudadano, in third, took 9.5%, and the remaining four parties ranged from the PVEM's 6.9% down to the PRD's 1.4%, with the PT and PRI in between. Spoiled ballots reached 5.2% of the total, above the 3.7% national figure.

What sets the state apart is how the alliances were built. Sigamos Haciendo Historia ran a joint candidate in only one of the nine districts, district 8, seated in Tijuana; in the other eight, Morena, the PT and the PVEM each fielded their own candidates, while the PAN, PRI and PRD ran together everywhere. Morena won those eight districts on its own, and the coalition took district 8. The tightest race was in district 1, in Mexicali, decided by 9.6 points; in district 4, also in Tijuana, second place went to the PT's own candidate rather than to Fuerza y Corazón por México.

In 2027 Baja California elects a governor, the 25 members of its legislature and its 7 municipal councils, on top of its nine federal seats. Unlike most states choosing a governor, it offers no vote from abroad for that office. Its October 2026 electoral roll counted 3,450,164 people, and the whole state observes daylight saving time, so election day runs on UTC−7.
