Baja California Sur, from 2024 to 2027
With only two federal districts, Baja California Sur carries little weight in the Chamber, but its 2024 vote had a profile of its own. Morena led with 43.0% of the valid vote and the PAN came second with 27.6%, one of that party's five highest shares in the country. Third place went not to the PRI or Movimiento Ciudadano but to the PT, with 9.1%; further down, Movimiento Ciudadano got 7.5% and the PVEM 6.6%; the PRI managed 4.5%, its second-weakest showing among the 32 states, and the PRD, which lost its national registration after that election, 1.6%.
Turnout was 54.6%, almost six points under the national average and among the lowest anywhere: only three states voted less. Both districts, district 1 seated in La Paz and district 2 in Los Cabos, went to Sigamos Haciendo Historia, by margins of 22.8 and 26.4 points over Fuerza y Corazón por México. Movimiento Ciudadano, running alone here as it did nationwide, finished second in neither.
Besides its two federal seats, in 2027 the state chooses a governor, renews the 21 seats of its congress and votes in all five municipalities; residents abroad can register to vote for governor. Its electoral roll, 657,971 people in October 2026, is the second smallest in the country, larger only than Colima's. Like Sinaloa, Sonora and most of Nayarit, it votes on Mexican Pacific time (UTC−7). It will be the first election for SOMOS and PAZ, parties that did not compete in 2024.
