Economic axis (left ↔ right)
Measures your position on the role of the state in the economy: taxes, public services, social programs, regulation, energy. Further left means more state intervention; further right, more market and lower taxes.
Political compass
By Fadrique Garcia Font ·
Just saying “I am left-wing” or “I am right-wing” falls short: you can be liberal on the economy and progressive on social issues, or favor state intervention in the economy and be conservative on values. The political compass solves this by placing your views on a two-axis map.
The parties in the 2027 election
We have run the documented positions of the 8 parties in the test through the same formula that places you at the end of it, as if each party answered the 45 questions. It is an indicative map: it shows where the parties land based on their positions on our questions, not how they describe themselves or where other studies place them.
Left on the economy and progressive on social issues: Morena, PT and PVEM.
Right on the economy and conservative on social issues: PAN.
Right on the economy and progressive on social issues: MC, SOMOS and PRI.
In the center of the economic axis: PAZ.
The compass does not take every issue into account, and some on which several parties differ a lot are left out: that is why some of them end up closer to others than you might expect. Each party’s positions, question by question, are on its page, and the calculation is in the methodology.
How to read it
Measures your position on the role of the state in the economy: taxes, public services, social programs, regulation, energy. Further left means more state intervention; further right, more market and lower taxes.
Measures your position on individual freedoms, customs, identity and authority: civil rights, migration, tradition, security. One end puts social change and freedoms first; the other, order and tradition.
The map
State intervention in the economy and social freedoms.
Free market and social freedoms. Liberalism in its broad sense.
State intervention in the economy and traditional values. Less common among parties, common among voters.
Free market and traditional values.
Compass or ideology test
The ideology tests that circulate on social media, such as 12 axes, 8values or the political compass, place you on abstract axes with generic questions designed for any country, and give you a label. This compass uses the specific statements being debated in Mexico for 2027 and puts the 8 registered parties on the same map, each with its position on those same statements. It does not measure your ideology in the abstract: it measures how close your answers are to each party’s, and shows you where every point comes from.
How each party is placed, statement by statement, is explained in the analysis «Left-wing and right-wing parties in Mexico: the 2027 compass».
Your position
Our test calculates your exact position on the compass from your answers, not from labels, and shows it alongside your match with the parties. You can then see what each party stands for and understand why you land where you do.
