Transparency and funding

Trust in a political test is earned by showing the accounts and the rules. This page explains how Afinidad Política is funded, what rules advertising follows and what we will never do with your data.

1. How we are funded

Afinidad Política is funded by Google advertising (AdSense) on some content pages and by aggregated data reports on commission for whoever asks; whatever they do not cover is paid by the author. Each source works according to these rules:

  • Donations: Voluntary contributions from people who want to support the project, via Ko-fi with payment by PayPal. Three rules apply: we do not accept donations from political parties, candidates or campaigns, or from anyone acting on their behalf, and if we detect one we return it; each donation has a maximum of €500, and if a larger one arrives we return that too; and we will publish the total raised every year.
  • Commissioned reports: We prepare tailored aggregated data reports for whoever asks us for them: media outlets, universities, companies, civil society organizations, political parties or campaign teams. They are not sold on the website: you write to us, tell us what you need and we agree the price for each commission. A report commissioned by a party or a campaign is charged like any other, never free or discounted. Always with data summed across thousands of people (never individual responses or anything that could identify someone), with their methodology note, without voting preferences, and never delivered in the three days before the election or on election day. Whoever commissions a report receives data: they cannot change the questions, any party’s position, how the results are calculated or what is published on the site.
  • Google advertising: Google AdSense ads. The politics category is blocked in the ad units. Content pages may also have full-screen ads when moving from one page to another (never when going to the test) and links that Google adds to some words in our texts, which open results with ads; Google chooses these links based on the page text, not your answers, and they may touch on political topics. Ads never appear in the questions, in your result, in shared results or in the comparison tool. They are never targeted using your answers or your result. If you accept advertising cookies, Google may personalize ads based on your browsing on other sites and pass your full IP address to advertisers bidding to show them; if not, they are non-personalized.

2. Sponsorship and advertising policy

Rules we will apply to any advertiser or sponsor:

  • We never accept advertising or sponsorship from political parties, candidates or campaigns. No exceptions.
  • We give no party, candidate or campaign free services, extra visibility or links to their donation pages. Mexico’s General Law on Political Parties forbids foreign persons and people who live abroad from making contributions, in cash or in kind, to parties, pre-candidates or candidates (Article 54), and every party gets the same treatment on this site.
  • All sponsored content and affiliate links are clearly identified as advertising.
  • No advertiser influences the test questions, the positions of the parties or the results.
  • Advertising is never targeted using your answers or your result. If you accept advertising cookies, Google may personalize ads based on your browsing on other sites; if not, they are non-personalized.

3. What we do (and do not do) with the data

We only publish aggregated data on the topics of the test, with a minimum of one hundred tests per cell, which prevents anyone from being identified. You can see it in the public barometer.

None of this is an opinion poll or survey. Mexico’s electoral law (LGIPE, Article 251.5) requires anyone who publishes a poll or survey on electoral matters during the electoral process to submit the full study to the National Electoral Institute (INE). Our data is not a poll: it only shows how many of the people who took the test agree with each statement, by state, without a representative sample; we never publish voting preferences, the declared vote or affinity with each party. Even so, as a precaution, the barometer is taken offline from 2 to 6 June 2027.

Full details are in the privacy notice.

4. Who is behind it

Afinidad Política is a personal, independent project, developed from Spain, with no connection to any party, candidate, campaign, government, the INE or the local electoral bodies. The test methodology is public and auditable: how your result is calculated.

Because it is made from abroad, it follows one more rule: that of Article 33 of the Mexican Constitution, which keeps foreigners out of the country’s political affairs. So the website does nothing but inform: it does not tell anyone how to vote, does not campaign and keeps no relationship with any party.
