What Afinidad Política is

Afinidad Política compares your answers to 45 statements about Mexican politics with the documented positions of the eight national political parties registered with the National Electoral Institute (INE), ahead of the federal election to the Chamber of Deputies on 6 June 2027. It calculates how closely you match each of them and places you on a two-axis political compass. It is free, requires no registration and is available in Spanish and English.

It belongs to a family of tools known as voting advice applications, which exist in many countries. It is not an official website or an opinion poll, it does not forecast election results and it does not recommend who to vote for: it measures the distance between your views and the documented positions of the parties, and that is where its role ends.

Around the test there is a body of public documentation: each party’s profile with its position on every question, topic pages, aggregated data on the topics from the people who have taken the test, and signed analyses explaining what can be read from that data.

Who is behind it

It is a personal, independent project developed from Spain by Fadrique Garcia Font, who is responsible for its development, for maintaining the database of positions and for the published texts. There is no publishing company, party, candidate, campaign, government, foundation or interest group behind it, and it has no connection with the INE or the local electoral bodies.

Why is a test for Mexican elections made in Spain? Since January 2026 the same author has run a test of the same kind for Spanish elections, Afinidad Política (afinidadpolitica.es), and since October 2026 others for Estonia, Slovakia and France; Afinidad Política applies the same method to Mexico. Being outside Mexican politics does not in itself guarantee impartiality, and it can mean mistakes in the language or the context. That is why you can check everything: every position comes with its source, positions without an explicit document are marked as estimated, every change is recorded in the revision log on the methodology page, and anyone can write to us if they find a mistake.

It also means following one more rule. Article 33 of the Mexican Constitution provides that foreigners may not interfere in the country’s political affairs. So the website only informs: it never asks anyone to vote, or not to vote, for any party, it does not campaign, it has no dealings with any party and it treats all of them in the same way.

Full identification details, including the address for legal purposes, are given in the legal notice. For any question or correction there is a contact page explaining what information we need in order to review a position.

How the content is produced

Party positions are assigned on the basis of each party’s documented stance. The main source is the election platform each party registers with the INE for 2027 (they are submitted from 1 to 15 January 2027, according to the INE’s calendar). Until then, we use each party’s founding documents (declaration of principles and program of action), the roll-call votes of its deputies in the Chamber of Deputies (66th Legislature), its 2024 election platform and its public statements, and we say which one we use. Each position comes with a justification and, where we have found the specific document, a link to its source. Positions without an explicit document stating them are marked as estimated: we would rather say so than claim a precision we do not have.

Party descriptions, topic introductions and the topic-by-topic readings are written from those positions and checked against the database before publication. They do not include outside data without a source to back it up.

The analyses draw on three materials: the matrix of positions, the aggregated response data and the calculation algorithm itself, plus official sources when they deal with laws or procedures. They carry a publication date, a review date, the person responsible and the list of sources used.

If you teach civics or social sciences, the page for teachers has a lesson plan for using the test without anyone having to say who they would vote for.

When someone points out an error and provides a source, we check it, correct it where appropriate and record the review date on the relevant page.

positions in the test

Of the parties’ 360 positions in the test, 267 are based on a linked document (platform, founding documents, a vote or a statement) and 93 are marked as estimated. First version: 2026.

How it is funded

Free for everyone: the test will never cost anything or require registration. It is funded by Google advertising (AdSense) on some content pages and by aggregated data reports on commission for whoever asks, including parties or campaigns: they are not sold on the website, you have to write to us and the price is agreed depending on what is needed. Whatever that income does not cover is paid by the author. It does not accept advertising, sponsorship or donations from parties, candidates or campaigns, and no ad or commissioned report changes how the test works.

The advertising rules are on the transparency page: ads never appear in the test, in your result, in shared results or in the comparison tool, they are never chosen using your answers or your result, and political ads are blocked.

What data we store

No registration or account: your answers are stored with a random identifier, together with the approximate state and city of your connection, your browser and a keyed hash of your IP address. The hash, the browser and the city are deleted after 12 months.

That hash is used to prevent abuse and cannot be used to recover the original address, so the processing is pseudonymous rather than anonymous. The data published in the barometer is always aggregated, only on the topics of the test, with a minimum of one hundred tests per cell. Full details are in the privacy notice.
